I wanted to take a minute to say thank you to everyone who has made this career so enjoyable for me and for naming me Plainfield's 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year. I always knew I loved science - and coaching made me realize how much I love teaching - but I never expected the level of support, appreciation, and camaraderie that I have received as a teacher here.
Thank you to our administration for seeing the potential in me and supporting me as I grew, and continue to grow, as an educator. Your words of encouragement keep me pushing harder every day.
Thank you to my coworkers for letting me bounce ideas off of you, trusting me with your ideas, and providing an environment where care and growth are encouraged.
Thank you to my friends and family for supporting me through this career that I have chosen. I know it's annoying that I grade during every cookout, plan during every car ride, and talk endlessly about "my kids".
And the biggest thank you of all is to my students. You are the reason I get up every morning and come to class excited to teach another day. You are the reason I plan and re-plan to get everything just right for a lesson. And you are the reason that I continue to want to teach- when you come into class talking science, or leave debating a topic, or listen to me for another minute after the bell rings, or plan field trips after school has already been out for the summer, or send me messages online about topics, or trust me day after day with your hopes and thoughts and feelings - you make me feel like my life has purpose and meaning and there aren't enough words to thank you for that!
I love you Plainfield!
