AP Biology is a rigorous course that requires a specific set of pre-requisite knowledge in order to be successful. This summer assignment is designed to ensure that you understand all of the basic material that will be required as we delve deeper into each subject. Students MUST have understanding of, and ability to apply, essential understanding in Ecology, Evolution, Biochemistry, Cells, Photosynthesis and Respiration, and Genetics. Many of the topics are included in your previous biology courses but regardless of how you understood them in the past you MUST completely understand them now in order to be successful.
This course offers free college credit to students who pass the AP Exam in May. As such, this course is geared entirely towards success on the exam. Students who aren't sure about taking the exam in May or who aren't motivated to put in the effort to be successful on the exam should not take a seat in the course away from a student who is going to take the course and exam seriously.

There are six units that are covered on the summer assignment. You will have the week to prepare yourself using the strategies I assign (and finding additional strategies as needed) to take a unit mini-test. Each mini-test will constitute part of your starting grade in this course. The first day of school you will take an exam on the pre-requisite material.
If you do not score well on the end-of-summer exam you will NOT be able to take the course as the summer assignment represents the pre-requisite knowledge required for success.
